Clockwise or counter-clockwise?
Scanners feeding from the top of a landscape sheet usually produce pages that need a clockwise (right) turn — that’s why it’s the preset. If your preview shows text now upside-down-sideways, your scanner fed from the other edge: two clicks of “⟲ 90° left” from the preset state gets you there (90° right + 180° = 90° left).
Mixed documents — a landscape chart inside a portrait report — are the reason rotation here is per-page. Click only the sideways pages and rotate just those; the preset’s all-pages mark clears the moment you select specific pages.
Good to know
- The rotation is added to whatever a page already has, and always lands on one of the four legal PDF orientations — you can’t end up at a skewed angle.
- Rotating is lossless and near-instant even on huge scans: it flips an orientation flag, it doesn’t re-render pixels.
Frequently asked questions
Is 90° clockwise the same as 270° counter-clockwise?
Yes — PDF stores one of four orientations (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°), so three left turns equal one right turn. The buttons do the arithmetic; the thumbnails always show the final state.
Why do my rotated pages print sideways anyway?
Check the print dialog’s auto-rotate setting — some drivers rotate output to “fit” and undo your fix visually. The file itself is correct; other viewers and printers will honor it.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
Not directly — encrypted files can’t be edited here. Open the file with its password in your viewer, print/save to a new PDF, then rotate that.
